Internships are a great way to try out jobs and develop your skills. Indiana INTERNnet can connect you with thousands of Indiana organizations across the state, making it easy to search and apply for internships all on one site.
Amy Schrader, human resources and marketing coordinator for Backhaul Direct/Grapevine TMS, an Indiana-based logistics company, graduated from IUPUI in 2018, and landed an internship with her employer the same year through Indiana INTERNnet.
“I do not think that I would have been able to get the exact job I wanted so quickly out of college,” Schrader said. “I was not only taught what an HR professional does, but also how to interact with a multitude of different personality and work styles.”
Schrader now runs the internship program at Backhaul Direct and has some thoughts on what she’s looking for in an ideal intern.
During the interview process, she wants prospective interns to treat the experience less as an interrogation and more of a conversation about future goals, she said.
“The skill that I am looking for when hiring interns is the ability to communicate. I also look for openness and the desire to learn. I think that it is important for interns to try to get as much out of an experience as they can. I want interns to come in every day ready to learn something new and push themselves further then they thought they could go.”
IndianaINTERN.net is free to use. Create a student profile to get started, then use the advanced internship search to find an internship by keyword, job category, location and more. Check back frequently—new internships are added all the time.
